Celebrating the Life of Veronica T. Mast (née Devaney)
It is with heavy hearts and fond memories that we announce the passing of Veronica T. Mast, née Devaney. Born in Corneddan, County Longford, Ireland, Veronica embodied the spirit of resilience and warmth, leaving a lasting impact on everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Veronica’s journey was nothing short of inspiring. Leaving her homeland, she set out to build a new life in the United States, bringing her Irish charm and steadfast determination with her. From Staten Island to the diverse boroughs of New York City, she ultimately found her true home in East Brunswick, New Jersey. There, she cultivated not just a beautiful garden but also a community of friends and family who cherished her deeply.
Her greatest pride and joy were her three children. Though she faced the unimaginable sorrow of losing her beloved sons, Duane and Jackie, Veronica’s love for her daughter, Joan, was unbreakable. Together, they shared life’s many triumphs and trials, their bond as strong as steel.
Veronica was preceded in death by her loving husband, Jack; her parents, James and Elizabeth Devaney; her siblings, Margaret Kealy, Regina Nagle, and James Devaney; and her cherished niece and nephews, Mary Meehan, Kevin Kealy, and John Kealy. Veronica’s faithful canine companion, Lucky, passed in the fall of 2023, leaving a void in her heart but a lifetime of treasured memories.
A woman of many talents, Veronica’s green thumb brought beauty and life to every garden she tended, transforming ordinary spaces into lush havens. Her Catholic faith was her guiding light, offering her strength and solace through life’s challenges. Known for her storytelling, Veronica could captivate any audience with tales of Ireland and her incredible life journey. Her kitchen was always filled with warmth, delicious aromas, and the laughter of those she held dear.
Veronica was grateful for the love and companionship of dear friends, including Bonnie Lehet, Merrie Snow, Sr. Catherine Mindling, RSM, Mary Kealy, and her grandnieces, Kara and Katie, who supported her in her later years with kindness and care.
Though she has left this world, Veronica’s legacy of resilience, love, and faith lives on in the hearts of her family and all who had the privilege of knowing her. She will be deeply missed, but her spirit endures in the countless lives she touched.
Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Veronica’s honor to Wounded Warriors or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital—two causes close to her heart.
Veronica’s life reminds us to cherish each moment, live with purpose, and love with all we have. May her soul rest in peace.
