A Life of Love, Courage, and a Celtic Dream
It is with profound sadness, yet gentle relief, that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, great aunt and friend, Helen Geraldine Fyfe (née Boyce), known to many as Ella on Thursday, 6th November 2025, at her cherished home in Aughnasheelin. She was 86 years old.
Born on 22nd December 1938, in Scotland, Helen’s life was marked by a devoted heart, sacrifice, hard work, and a generous spirit. Her journey to retire in Ireland a decade ago, fulfilled with her husband Dougie, was the beautiful realisation of a shared, long-held dream, driven by her Celtic heart and nostalgic ambition. Dougie unfortunately passed away in 2017 from illness and was interred nearby in St. Mary's Cemetery.
Helen faced her final two-year battle with illness with immense courage. Her strong heart and unwavering bravery were evident to the end. She passed peacefully at home in the early morning, held in the love of her family, having graciously waited for all her children to be by her side for their final goodbyes.
Helen was surrounded by her six sons, daughter, son-in-law Michael, daughters-in-law, her sister Jacinta, grandchildren, and the pets she so adored.
Helen was under the expert care at home of Northwest Hospice and Irish Cancer Society during her time of passing. They were an absolute godsend during this trying time allowing Helen to pass with dignity, comfort and peace. We would also like to thank Sligo University Hospital Oncology Medical Team and Homecare Support Team for all their fantastic care and support throughout.
She will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by all who knew her, especially her cherished children Arthur, Denise, Colin, Drew, Brian, Joseph, and Douglas, son-in-law Michael, her daughters-in-law, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her loving siblings Vera, Hugh, Brendan, Jacinta, Brian and Kevin, and will be sadly missed by her extended family and many friends.
We take immense comfort in knowing that Helen is now reunited in Heaven with her beloved husband Dougie, her son Paul, and her parents and siblings who have gone before her, resting eternally in the peace of God's paradise.
Helen's ashes will be interred alongside her beloved Dougie in St Mary's Cemetery, Aughnasheelin, at a later date, completing their shared dream in the land they loved.
