Desmond (Des) Caren

Shankill, Dublin

Desmond Kevin Caren, also known as "DKC" in his professional life, has sadly passed away on November 5th 2025. After 98 years of enjoying life he is now with the love of his life, his wife Sheila (Scott) or "She She". Des is survived by his five children Colm, (Trish Kane) Rory, (Trish Mathews) Deirdre (Stuart Rice), Declan, (Bernie Mount) and Kevina (Niall Malone). Also by his grandchidren: Scott, Karl, Morgan, Sam, Hugh, Luke, Aisling, Shane, Jack, Sarah, Jake and Ryan. He will also be remembered with great affection by : Sarah, Sarah Jane, Ailin, Laura, Sally, Lily, Kevin, Ciara, Jo and Becca. The great grandkids that could do "no wrong" Camille, Brody, Leo, Arthur, Louis, Cria, Cole, Aoibhe, Mattí and baby James Desmond will miss their lovely Great Grandfather.

Des's three brothers and two sisters moved to England in their early 20s, and sadly have all have passed on, leaving Des as the Last Man Standing. He will be greatly missed by all his close relatives there and the Scott family in Dublin.

Des was a fluent Irish speaker, spoke Latin and was a member of MENSA, had a Private Pilot's licence, drove a Triumph Stag, a Jaguar Mark 2 (Inspector Morse) and the 'last of the line' MG. He was also a long- term suffering supporter of Everton Football Club.

No matter where Des went he made friends and he will be missed by the many of you who will be reading this notice.

 

We would like to express our sincere thanks to all the doctors, nurses and carers who looked after Des in recent months at St Vincent's Hospital, Marlay Nursing home and The Royal Hospital in Donnybrook.

 

Des will repose in Quinn’s Funeral Home, Glasthule A96EW88, on Monday (November 10th) from 4pm to 6pm. Funeral Mass on Tuesday (November 11th) in St Anne’s Church, Shankill at 10am which can be viewed on www.churchservices.tv/shankill followed by cremation in Mount Jerome Crematorium. Family flowers only please. Donations, if desired, to Friends of the Royal Hospital, Donnybrook.
