Sr. Maeve Hughes

The death has occurred of Sr. Maeve Hughes (Mary Alice Hughes) (Loreto Residence Kolkata, India) formerly of Hollyvale, Lough Gowna, Co. Cavan, and Loreto Convent, Ranchi, Jharkhand, India.

Sr. Maeve passed away peacefully on Saturday 19th July 2025 in the loving care of the religious sisters and staff of Loreto Residence Kolkata, in her 96th year and 79th year of her religious life.

Sr. Maeve is predeceased by her parents John P. and Annie, sister Nancy, brothers Seán, Barry and baby Bernard.

Deeply missed by her nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, her many friends and colleagues in the religious communities of Loreto Convent Ranchi, Kolkata and the extended Loreto Community in Ireland and abroad.

Sr. Maeve's Funeral will take place in Loreto College Hall Kolkata, India on Wednesday 23rd July 2025, at 10AM Irish Time, followed by burial in St. John's. The Mass will be streamed online at the following link : https://www.youtube.com/live/XVoLz0ESmFA

A memorial Mass will be held for Sr. Maeve in the Church of the Holy Family, Loch Gowna in the coming weeks. Full details to follow in the days ahead.
