Maureen Whelan
(née Spellman)

Formerly of Abbeylands, Castledermot, Co. Kildare. Maureen’s kind and gentle soul passed peacefully in the early hours of Wednesday, the 29th of October, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones and whilst in the wonderful care of the Palliative Care team in Portiuncula Hospital, Ballinasloe.

Predeceased by her husband Eamonn, little boy Terence, parents Rita and Thomas and brother Marty.

Maureen is very much loved and remembered by her daughters Siobhán and Amanda, her youngest son Adrian, son-in-law Joe, and her grandchildren Dara, Emer and Maitiú whom she loved dearly. Maureen was an adored sister of the late Marty and surviving siblings: Pauline, Gerard, Noel, John, Joe and Rita.

Maureen will also be sadly missed by all her brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, extended family, her many carers, friends, neighbours and her ‘other family’ - the nurses and colleagues she loved and worked with throughout her lifetime.

Maureen was the nicest, kindest, gentlest soul to have ever graced God’s good earth.

Maureen will repose in Áras Mhuire Funeral Home, in the grounds of St. Killian’s Church, New Inn (H53 P6C0), on Oíche Shamhna, Friday the 31st of October from 4-6pm, with removal afterwards to St. Killian’s Church, New Inn (H53 H078). Maureen’s Requiem Mass will take place on All Saints’ Day, Saturday the 1st of November at 11am, with burial afterwards in Grange Cemetery.
