Joan was an independent thinker, an artist, activist, socialist, teacher, musician, community campaigner, and human rights advocate and changed many lives with her kindness and creativity. She spoke many languages and was a huge supporter of the artistic community in Sligo. She was an organist at St John’s Cathedral and was a member of the ICA, Sligo Drama Circle and the Labour Party.
Recently predeceased by her husband, Lionel, Joan is sadly missed by her sister Inga Lloyd, her children Conor, Fionnuala, Clodagh, Darina, Fergal, and foster son Tommy. Also sons-in-law Rafael and Paddy; daughters-in-law Maggie and Ola; brother-in-law Brian, sisters-in-law Maeve, Olive and Mildred; nieces Selina and Nerissa, and grandchildren Íosac, Maeve, Bláithín, Oisín, Conor, Aengus, Róisín, Cormac, Oscar, Danny, Éanna and Mella. Also included are Anna and Jens, all relatives, neighbours and friends.
Reposing at Foley & McGowan’s Funeral Home, Market Yard, Sligo (F91YR61) on Friday 11th April from 6:00pm to 8:00pm.
Funeral will arrive at St. John’s Cathedral, John Street, Sligo on Saturday 12th April at 1:00pm for funeral service. Funeral cortège will then proceed to Sligo Cemetery for burial after.
