Our deepest & heartfelt sympathies to Linda, Eoin, Conor, and to all the extended Connellan & Clancy families, on the heartbreaking loss of Don.

Don was a true gentleman and a proud family man. Whether on the sidelines at Moycullen pitch or at soccer in Salthill Devon, he and Linda were always there, cheering on their two brilliant boys.

Sport and family were at the heart of his life, and his warmth, dedication, and friendly presence will be greatly missed — from the pitches to the school gates, and throughout the community.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you all at this very sad time. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.

I never knew Don until I read Colin Sheridan’s column in the sport section of the Irish Examiner yesterday (11 August 2025): “The best of men, who quietly won in life - on and off the pitch”. I would refer all of Don’s family and friends to this brilliant tribute to a great person. Well done Colin Sheridan. And I offer my deepest condolences to Don’s wife Linda and family on your terrible loss. CS: “He was a good, good man. Who quietly achieved more in his short life than many would in three. He sought no credit and chased no glory.”

Linda and Family--All the Connellan and Clancy Families and extended relations and freinds ---It was an extreme honour to have known Don---I found him to be a man of great character----he was great to judge the genuiness of another persons character instantly. When I rang him on one occasion to play in a Garda Charity Match he replied immediately without hesitation to count him in---Thats the type of man he was. We think of his mother at this time too loosing her great son which she should be proud of.----Leaba i measc na nAingeal duit--Don R.I.P.

We are deeply saddened by the passing of Don, one of life's true gentlemen. a remarkable footballer, Manager and a devoted family man. His passion on the field inspired many, and his leadership and strength on the sidelines left a lasting legacy.

I will recall his days farming with his dad and brothers in Tulsk with great fondness.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Nellie Linda, Eoin and Conor, to his brothers Adrian and David , and all his family, his friends and the people of Kilmore and Moycullen during this incredibly difficult time. He has left a huge imprint in the world during his all too short life.

I got to know Don Connellan while he was a student in UCG. One of the privileges I enjoyed during my time teaching there, was that of being in a position to see students mature into adulthood and to develop and maintain friendships with them, as they moved on in life. Many were and are inspiring individuals, not just for their academic achievements, but more so for the people they would become and wider contributions they would make. Don was, most certainly, one such. I am a sports enthusiast, all sports, so I was soon aware of Don's ‘existence’ and followed his trajectory with interest. His contribution to Gaelic Football in the university was immense, both in his playing days and more recently again, as coach to the Sigerson team; his leadership qualities and calm persona always to the fore. Now, in truth, as he tended to remind me in later years, and we'd invariably share a laugh about it, Don was generally more committed to football than to his coursework! But, this was never a problem, as he always seemed to do ‘enough’! He spoke to me before joining the Gardai and later appeared happy and proud to have done so. I was shocked when he told me of his illness a few years back; he was just post-surgery at the time. We met a few times since then and I knew all was not well, but it was nevertheless most distressing to read of his passing. My heartfelt condolence to his family, to his colleagues and to all those others who, like me, will miss him.
— John Sheil, ex UCG
